Dale Murphy, an All-American baseball player with Gold Glove defense and All-Star offense, was inducted into the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame as a part of the Class of 1995, which included basketball great Julius Erving and baseball standout Roberto Clemente.

Dale Murphy made his professional debut as a catcher with the Atlanta Braves in 1976 and played his final game in 1993 for the Colorado Rockies (with a three year stint on the Philadelphia Phillies in between). During that 16 year-span, Murphy appeared in seven All-Star Games, won five consecutive Gold Glove Awards and received two consecutive Most Valuable Player Awards. He also led the major league in total home runs and RBIs in the ten year span between 1981 and 1990.

Murphy became a model for clean-living habits at a time where drug use pervaded the league. His involvement with various charities, such as the Make-a-Wish Foundation, garnered “Athletes Who Care” recognition from Sports Illustrated in 1987. Murphy went on to found his own organization to combat the use of performance enhancing drugs in sports.
